Contest Brief

Write a one minute speech for a facebook ad for a Go Fund Me, a one minute speech for a facebook ad for the petition it funds and write a three minute speech for the video that will be displayed on the petition.

Apple Ideas starts as a Go Fund Me which will (hopefully) pay for a digital petition to be created and advertised at www.appleideas.com asking Apple CEO Tim Cook to read the attached open letter and it will (with a lot of luck) eventually become a department of Apple Inc. The videos are speeches, the first one has to convince people on facebook to donate through Go Fund Me, the second needs to convice people to visit the petition and the big one has to explain Apple Ideas in more detail and ask the viewer to add their name to the petition and buy a key ring or a t-shirt to help fund its advertising.

The actor will be standing in a flowering apple orchard in the southern spring and will be wearing an Apple Ideas t-shirt displaying the attached apple blossom logo with the slogan "Create the Difference" and you have to provoke enough interest in the viewer to get them to read the letter.

This is what I wrote for the Go Fund Me commercial, try and better it.

Hi

Do you know one of those (air quotes) "inventors"? You probably do, there are quite a few of them. I call them retards but anyway some homeless inventor is raising funds on Go Fund Me to pitch Apple and ask them to change their policy on unsolicited proposals. He wants them to create a department called (air quotes) "Apple Ideas" where inventors can pay to sign away their intellectual property rights and pitch Apple with their ideas in the hope of winning a prize. If you want to read his full proposal or donate to his campaign visit gofundme.com and search Apple Ideas.

Okay I have not been astounded by the entries so far so I have done a speech for the Go Fund Me ad myself. I think I'm going to end up doing the whole thing but submit you entries anyway and I'll break up the prize among the people who give me good ideas.

I agree with James, it's best to select multiple winners and then divide the prize among the multiple winners. You get as much entries as possible, you also get to reward the creativity of writers brainstorming to come up with the best of ideas for you

Contest - Choosing a design > Can I divide my contest prize to multiple winners?

No, you need to award the full amount displayed as contest prize to one winner or multiple winners. This means that the prize money that you have for one winner will be the same amount for the other winners that you will choose.

Alternatively, you can also select runner-up winners by buying non-winning entries for the amount specified by the entry owners.

Focus on the 1 minute facebook video advertising the GoFundMe to start with. Start with a joke like the allergies thing the explain what go fund me is in a sentence then talk about the petition

Read the description again and please read the letter. You have to make people want to read it and it is long and quite dry. Don't call apple ideas a competition call it a department and don't emphasis for a "small" fee just say that you can pay to pitch Apple.

Okay I liked the bit about "I hope you have no terrible allergies to Apple Blossoms" and I think you should all work in something about Tasmania being known as the "Apple Isle".

Check draft 24 of the letter, I think I'm almost done. Aside from that I'm editing the specs of the competition now. I need a 1 minute intro for facebook, a 2 - 3 minute body for go fund me and an alternate 2 - 3 minute body for the petition.

To tell you the truth, I think your biggest problem is this https://www.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/policies/ideas.html. Basically its well known that Apple refuses to take any submissions and, if people persist in sending them anything IN WHATEVER FORM then - and I quote "You agree that: (1) your submissions and their contents along with related intellectual property rights will automatically become the property of Apple, without any compensation to you;"

Right! And, it’s not just Apple either. Most big name brands like General Mills, Kellogg’s, Nabisco, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola, have similar policies in place. Honestly, I don’t think it would even go as far as the latter.

The other issue here is that these are just ideas. Would proof-of-concept also be required? And, even if there was proof-of-concept, it would make it all the more likely that the ideas would just be stolen. If a person hasn’t patented their ideas, assuming they’re patentable, then he or she would leave open this possibility. Whether unsolicited or solicited, it all amounts to the same. There’s no protection unless you’ve patented your idea. And, if a big name brand likes your idea, sees that it’s patented, but doesn’t feel like compensating you, then they could always try to circumvent the patent; because there’d be documentation for how your patent works that’s publicly available.

The idea of signing over intellectual property for the “possibility of winning a prize” also seems like a deal breaker for would-be entrants. At least here, you’d know if a sponsor has the stipulated prize money on hand.

This sounds pretty interesting! Is the contest really going for the entire month of July? Would you end it earlier if you find the right speech? I only ask because it's a long time to be riding the roller coaster that is Freelancer contests :) Cheers

Yes, I agree. It would have been better if the duration was set to either 1 or 2 weeks. Most contest holders tend to forget to award a winner when the duration is set for so long a time (1 month).

    Dear prospective client,
I hope you are doing well in Australia. I am interested in undertaking this project since I have the necessary skills and knowledge to write a speech that would convince the Apple company to establish a division by the name of Apple Ideas to carry out the legacy of former CEO, Steve Jobs. Please get in touch to discuss further details about the project.

you are not only convincing the apple company to pick up the product you are also convincing the public to add their names to the petition and primarily convincing people to donate to the go fund me.
