Contest Brief

With this contest, I would like to select a children's writer to write a short illustrated story which will be published by an American editor and illustrated by me. At the moment I just have the title of the story “The Garden”, it should be delicate and poetic and about the respect for the environment and all living things, animals and plants. The full text is supposed to be around 5000 characters included spaces. The task of the candidate in this contest is to write the first paragraph of the story (500/600 characters) giving a short note about how he/she will develop the full story. Language: American English.

Hi there, I want to update my entry for this contest. Is there a way for me to do this besides submitting a new entry?

I am interested in submitting an idea or two for this contest, but need a couple questions answered. First, what is the target age for the writing? Second, would you prefer normal prose, or a whimsical rhyme scheme?

Thank you, Kenneth. Target age I would say 5-8. I prefer normal prose. Waiting for your entry!

There is still a week and three days for me to decide, but many of you are walking the wrong way. What's important is the idea of the story which should be possibly original, simple but not common. The text will be short so it is important to put only the essential in the story and, if possible, a good idea! Thank you!

Question: I am starting to see entries go way over the 600 characters...how strict is the rule with regards to the number of characters?

Number of characters is not the main goal, the most important is the story itself.

Hello. I will start writing, can you tell me if you're still interested or did you give up the contest? My question is because the last post on this board was 1 week ago!

Thank you all for submitting... Yet, you still have more than three weeks... be more creative and improve your entries... The title is "The Garden" but we don't need a mere description of what is a garden. The garden is "the place" where things happen, the garden is a living thing, always changing a micro-world inhabited by insects, animals as well as humans. The story should be simple but not too simple, get inspired by legends and traditions of our own land, bring some personal touch in it. The garden is a place where black birds nest in the hedge, the cat runs up an olive tree or drinks water from the swimmingpool, the ants run up to the kitchen window. Put a pinch of humor in it, some magic and plan a story with a beginning a developement and an end. Thank you!
