Contest Brief

We are looking for an illustrator to complete a 3 panel art piece for our website. We’re requesting that candidates submit their interpretation of the 2nd (middle) panel of the art piece. The full width panel must be design in a way that the mobile and tablet versions still contain the key elements without being compromised in appearance. The panels will eventually be animated, so we request the design to be completed in layers.

Details on the full 3 panel piece:
The art piece will be 3 panels reflecting the evolution of time with a street view of the “main street” (picture attached for viewpoint). The same street view will be in all panels. the main character will be in all panels in the same spot. 1st Panel: 19th Century / 1800s: colours will be black, white and dark brown accents. 2nd Panel: 50s-60s area, faded colour. 3rd Panel: idealist present, full colour with lots of blue & green accents. We will need “Easter Eggs” in all panels.

The illustration should be comic book / marvel / anime / modern style. We’ve included pictures of the type of style we like but are open to interpretations.

The image “1960s High Street” is what we’re basing our 3 panel art piece off of. We do not want the same style of drawing. But we do want the same street view and the same concept of a busy main street with the time period being reflected. We want 1 main female character in all of the panels with shopping bags, but other people in the background as well.

Here are the full details we want for the 2nd panel:
- 50-60’s Timeframe
- Colour but Faded to reflect the past.
- Small shops that are spaced out & have greenery filling the gaps (incld. soda shop (Archie style) & salons)
- Cars: 57 Chevy Belair,
- 50-60s fashion (colourful, proper, focus on hairstyles)
- People smoking cigarettes,
- Classic Billboard advertising.
- Factory smoke stack in the background.
- Métis and Francophone shop,
- Paper bags,
- Old Cameras,
- Juke Boxes or Record Players.
- Band posters.
- kids playing outside
- Other Canadian Easter Eggs reflecting the timeframe incld. but not limited to: maple syrup, curling rock holding the door open, The Four Lads (band poster).

The chosen illustrator will be required to complete the 1st and 3rd panel after for the same price within an agreed timeframe. We require unlimited revisions. We also need all the images in a photoshop & jpeg format.

What will be the resolution of each panel? Will it be square?

  We are thinking a square dimension would be best so they can be added to a slider, be stacked if needed, and so they can be shared on social media.
