CSS for three existing (basic) HTML pages

  • Status: Closed

  • Winner: Akademic

Contest Brief

Using CSS/LESS etc, make some style & layout options for three pages (templates). These are provided as basic HTML currently, so adding CSS, transitions etc is all that is required.

The contest is to provide a look (template) screenshots initially, but you will need to provide HTML/CSS to be selected (once you are finalised). The quality/readability of the CSS is important, so not too many includes, libraries or messy code.

A menu design is needed - two levels of menu (top and sub-menu). Designs should be responsive (work on mobile & tablet screens without special customisation).

Bootstrap or other frameworks are acceptable but JS & CSS must be simple to read.

Examples of the original pages (without any CSS) are attached. Actual HTML is in a ZIP file attachment.

Discussion & questions via instant messenger (please send details).

Contest may be finished early if the right response comes in. More work in future likely also.

    DESIGN CUES (inspiration) RESPONSIVENESS:
When viewed very narrow the columns become groups of rows: http://codepen.io/AllThingsSmitty/pen/MyqmdM
    http://codepen.io/pixelchar/pen/rfuqK
    http://codepen.io/pixelchar/pen/rfuqK

Nice font (a bit like Avenir Next, sort of). Good blue but good strong as background. The grey/white alternating lines.
The row with dark grey mouse-over is good, and should allow the whole row to be a link

=> Number of columns changes responsively (narrow vs wide window/device)
Bright colours (white or light grey background may be preferable though)...

We want something more modern - not too "Microsoft Office" look... I will share some design cues at some stage, but go for the modern web look - large fonts, bright colours etc

Great - your first design is not bad, but it needs to be more adventurous. Maybe larger or more interesting fonts, dotted borders, whatever. Make it sing in a modern, responsive way. The black and electric blue in the menu, I like. I might do another banner because I find the font in the banner a bit boring, and a wave with a stronger colour (saturation) might look good too...
