Contest Brief

We are looking to create product box packaging artwork, with attractive background, on a pre-existing die line and pre-existing format and text. We have 3 designs to work on.

As we have provided the final die lines, logo assets, barcodes, safety images, product text, and full general layout already, all in exact final sizes, we have decided to make it a contest for the attractive arrangement of the new backgrounds, logo, and font colors only.

To be clear, one product box already exists, we have alternate but similar products to use the same layout, but with new art.

Please download the asset packet and submit your best work for each of the items in the PDF attached.


WHAT WE NEED CREATIVELY FROM YOU:

• Background choice/shading (get creative using the color theme indicated, with suggested style theme) It should not distract from the text, as this product needs the explanations.
• Background must have full bleed to end of image size; it must not stop at "white cover".
• Hue of text or backgrounds adjusted from sample to the new relevant color by item.


WHAT -NOT- TO CHANGE:

• Size or dimensions of any files
• Die lines
• Logos provided
• Layout or placement of any items in layout basics.
• Primary Font / Style
• Barcode and SKU codes (provided)
• Wording or location of text (color can change)


OPTIONAL ITEM YOU CAN PROVIDE:

• 3d render of assembled box (NOT required, but will help us visualize your design).


ADDITIONAL DETALS:

• 3mm Bleed and Margin required on all art with regard to die and fold lines - to edge of image is best.
• 300dpi
• Final export will be required in PNG only. Export will be 5-7 exported PNG layers that can be re-layered to rebuild the art, exact size and shape as we sent to you, plus a background. All assets are their own PNG in total pixel size.).
• PLEASE NOTE: The box folds up. So the background art on the back of the box (bottom of image) must be “right side up” when folded.


As there will be 3 Winners, I will offer feedback on entries that will help guide the process.

FEEDBACK ON ENTRIES:

I will offer regular feedback on entries and rate them as follows:
1 star - will also get rejected.
2 star - likely to get rejected, just doesn't work.
3 star - in consideration. Not perfect, not wrong. A decent guide for other submissions.
4 star - a winner will be selected from one of these. Excellent.
5 star - Only the winner will be marked as 5-stars, usually on the last day or after the contest ends. If you see it, you won!

    Sincere apologies for what is going to become a substantial delay in selecting winners.
    Our timeline got away from us with other projects that took substantially longer than expected that kept the team from being together to review and pick final winners, and now we are headed away from our desks for a very long work convention. Prizes will be released in mid-March.

    We are beginning a hard cut on many. If you see an entry move down to 2 stars, it's no longer in competition. If it's in 3 stars still it could move to 4. Consider them 3.5 for now. This is a hard contest to judge given the wideness and quality of the art.

    A few tips (in addition to those in the below comment).

    -Stormwind. We are really liking the "hand-drawn" look / style of some of these. Almost fantasy art. It would fit well. Consider more of these. --- Lightning effects like the logo seem to be a hit here as well, but optional as they need to look clean, not blurry.

    -Chaotic Stupid. The backgrounds are great options so far. Would like to see more variety to choose from.

    -Cathedral Glass. We only really have 2-3 entries that are close to honoring the initial requests. Finding Cathedral images is easy. Try various backgrounds.

    General Tips:
    #1 ) If the text can't be read easily, your entry can't win! Create contrast!
    #2) It's super easy to submit 2-3 options per item. Just change only the background,. Easiest job ever. Flood us with options, just ensure the graphic design holds up with your background placement.
    #3 ) Back of box (bottom of art) must be "upside down" so when folded it's "right-side-up", or can't win!

    We have a number of 3-star entries that COULD be 4-star with a few edits. Please view them, and consider your own work against them.

    There are few Cathedral Glass entries that have hit the mark. Please attempt this artistic and elegant item. Natural grey stone cathedral wall is favored. With stained glass in it is a potential bonus (if the graphic design allows for the viewing angle. )

    Tips:

    -The bottom of the image area is the BACK of the box. Art in that area must be flipped upside down in the image to be seen as right-side-up once printed. This is true for all 3 versions. Note the hang-tags locations. The box will fold to overlap them.

    -Please submit each box on its own new submission entry. Don't group multiple boxes into 1 submission. .... 3 boxes = 3 entries. Even if you have 3 versions of 1 box... 3 entries. Thank you.

      Our concept team made an alternate for Cathedral Glass. It shows again how the back of the box is flipped so its right-side up.       Not currently available. What we do: Lock the pixels of the layer, so they can't be deleted or added to, but can be colored.
