Contest Brief

Update #1:
- many thanks for the great designs so far
- any design with a gear element will not be considered. Not an engineering company,. *** please read the brief properly ***
- a lot of designs are very formal with no sense of connection to place, country or culture. Marnda is a business intrinsically connected to the traditional owners and country of the west Pilbara region of western austrlia. This is a place of jagged red ironstone rocks, wide open spaces, stary nights and brilliant blue Skys. We don't ** do not ** have green grass, tall trees, sharp mountain peaks etc. Please refocus designs in this manner, shinny silver word designs really don't capture this.
- dots are ok but there is more to indigenous culture that this. If you use dots please make them feel alive, less linear and much less uniform.
- fonts and typeface: must be clear and easily readable, best designs so far are utilising strong and brush/calligraphy styles. I would discourage serrif types and encourage more sans styles if following a more traditional route. Please avoid sharing lines between letters, E.g. 'm' and 'a' letters sharing a line etc. Please minimise 'porosity' if using brush type fonts
- colours: strongly preferencing colours in the brown, black, red, yellow, orange colour spaces. Green doesn't feel right for the country unless it was quite muted say an olive green. Sky Blues and deep ocean Blues work, but bright bold Blues dont feel right.
- shapes: very strongly favouring non linear shapes I.e. not a cricle. Flowing lines and verying dot sizes are compelling as are some very interesting geometric fusions of triangular 'galvanising' shapes with earthy colours.
- I really cannot stress strongly enough the importance of connection to place and indigenous culture. The design needs to feel warm and friendly and welcoming to indigenous peoples. I an not looking for sharp and shiny at all. The less it feels like a suitable design for a lawyer's firm or professional engineering company the better.

Original Breif:
Marnda Advanced Coatings is a Brand New Indigenous Galvanising Plant Project, delivering advanced metal surface treatment to the Pilbara for the first time.

Target Audience: Mining, Marine, Engineering

Our target market is established engineering businesses and mining and industrial chemical plant companies.

Marnda is the traditional Ngarluma word for metal object.

I am looking for designs that show
- a connection to indigenous heritage
- a connection to the local region
- the galvanising product being delivered

Design goals
- Respectful of Indigenous Heritage
- Clean & Concise
- Clearly portrays message
- Easily reproducible & transferable: embroidered shirts, signs, vehicles, website, business cards, labels, email signature etc. etc.
