Contest Brief
Hi, I need a logo designed for my company.
The name of the business is “Dissidenz”
The tag line is “Incredible stories of non-violent dissent”
About the business:
• It produces stories – films, podcasts and texts – related to non-violent history, for example the 1989 Chinese democracy demonstrations, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, and Aung San Suu Kyi. The themes are: standing up to power, courage, daring, basic civil freedoms (of speech, of freedom from intimidation, of association, etc), and self-sacrifice.
• The films are told as non-fictive dramas, and are animations. An example can be seen at www.livesofthedissidents.com.
• We place strong focuses on not misrepresenting historical facts, on good storytelling and arresting visual art.
• We intend to be not-for-profit.
• Separately, we also produce live-action escape games under the trading name “Second Telling Missions”, games in which players carry out hypothetical missions within different moments of non-violent history.
Brief:
• The logo needs to be original
• There should be a version of the logo that includes both the business name and the tag line, one that includes the business name but does not include the tag line, and one that is simply the logo
• It is preferable that the logo can be printable in black and white
• The logo should be in landscape orientation (i.e. not square)
• The logo should be able to be printed on a range of material including window decals, business cards, letter heads, brochures, websites and signs
• The background should be transparent, so I can easily use it on business cards/websites etc.
• There should also be a reversed type option, so I can include the logo on a dark background (e.g. a version of the logo may be white)
Technical:
• The logo should be supplied as a high resolution AI or EPS file at 300DPI, so that I can modify it in the future if needed. In addition, PNG files should be provided.
• If you are selected, you should also provide the fonts you have used.
I don’t have any particular guidance for what the logo should depict, although at various times I have considered birds (our current makeshift logo is a bird – the connotation of freedom) and lions (the connotation of courage). I also like the face (and depiction of talking) in the cover art for the album cover of ‘Dissent’ by the band ‘Christ vs Warhol’. If a few of the themes could be combined together, that might be nice.
You might also be interested in the competition to design a logo for Second Telling Missions. After the logos are designed, we will hold a website design competition.
Thanks!
