My name is Barry Shafier. I own a B2B business, selling supplies to retail stores. Our web site is The Administrator removed this message for containing contact details which breaches our Terms of Service.
We have been in business since 1987, in the brick and mortal world, and online since 1999 (The Administrator removed this message for containing contact details which breaches our Terms of Service). it is a niche market, and while our universe is small, the traffic is highly targeted. No IPOD, electronics or super popular consumer products, mostly business people looking for supplies.
The reason I mention all of this is because we are having a problem. Our site now converts poorly— very poorly. Our conversion rate of of organic traffic is .07 percent, and off of PPC .035% (yes, I mean a third of a percent.) As our pricing is competitive, and there aren’t that many other sites out there doing what we do— I consider this conversion rate outlandish.
I believe that one of the main problems is that in the past, I have hired web designers, who focused on pretty design, but paid little attention to user experience. Clearly finding the right product is essential. In pricing guns there are 85 variations. And one of our problems seems to be that our potential customers aren’t finding the product they are looking for.
I am looking for a freelance designer with heavy user interface experience, to redesign our site. I am looking for an ongoing relationship, as there are constant changes that need to be made and tested. I am open to different approaches, but am specifically looking for someone who has been involved with B2B, user interface work. By that I mean, putting up product, testing for what works and what doesn’t. Changing the design, layout, and functionality to increase conversions… (I know that sounds obvious, but it will save you the hassle of responding if this hasn’t been your focus).
